Just about everywhere you go you will see silos dotted around the landscape in both urban and rural areas. This photograph was taken in rural France - grain silos in the middle of cornfields, no houses for miles, just open road and farmland.
Silos are used by many industries and for many different types of bulk material storage.
These include:
- cement
- grain
- animal feed
- flour
- coal
- carbon black
- detergent
- wood products
- sand
- gravel
Silos are prone to operational and maintenance problems. Here is one of them that I recently read about with a connection to sonic soot blowing.
Problem: The bulk material inside a silo does not empty evenly and often there is a build-up of material on one or both sides of the silo as well as a tendency for the material to bond together. So the silo will not function properly as a result.
Solution? Install a sonic soot blower such as the range offered by Quattrosonics. The sonic waves can prevent material build-up and bonding taking place. A simple, effective and non-intrusive solution.
