Silo Cleaning - Safe With Sound Waves

Sonic soot blowers and steam soot blowers are the focal point of my research and writing in this blog but today I'm going to talk about neither!

My study of sonic soot blowers recently took me on a journey of discovery into the world of silos. Silos are a necessary part of materials handling and processing from food products to wood products to cement, gravel, carbon black and more. So we have to live with them ... and their problems.

Silos can be dangerous, of that there's no doubt and every year people are killed working with silos. So safe silo cleaning has become an important issue within many industries.

Some bulk materials such as cement, gypsum and coal can sometimes adhere to the inside walls of a silo and this can create a blockage. The result? Reduced storage capacity, production delays, downtime, and sometimes even serious accidents when site operatives have to enter the silo to try and remove the blockage. The solution? Well, there are several on the market but the one I found the most convincing by far was the Prima Whip™. It has several key advantages which are explained in the pdf link.

At this point, I'm going to sign off from talking about silos, although I dare say I may back to the subject in the future as it's such a big subject. I think I might turn my thoughts to biomass boilers and their relevancy to the world of soot blowing. Watch this space .... :-)
